DAZ3D and Poser Free Stuff

  • Quote

Postby bajazet » Wed Nov 22, 2017 8:31 am

This thread is for people to post links to any useful free stuff they know of for DAZ3D and Poser.

Be aware that anything you load from other sites will have to be installed manually (usually by merging the ‘Runtime’ folder for the item with your own DAZ ‘Runtime’ folder). It will not appear in the DAZ ‘Smart Content’ tab, so you will have to hunt for it in the ‘Content Library’.

DAZ3D itself provides a fair assortment of Freebies, some on a permanent basis, and others for a limited time, so it is always worth checking the Freebies section of the shop for updates. To see all the Freebies available just change the ‘Sort By’ box to ‘Price Low-High’, and all the free stuff will appear first. Alternatively, type ‘100%’ in the ‘Search Store’ box at the top and you will be presented with several pages of Freebies. Not all the Freebies appear under ‘Smart Content’ when you install them, but can always be found in the ‘Content Library’.

One of the most well-known sites is RENDEROSITY which is a commercial site selling lots of Poser and DAZ3D items, but it also has a huge range of free stuff as well. You can use the ‘Search Freestuff’ box to narrow down your search if you don’t fancy wading through over 600 pages! The free stuff on offer varies in type and quality, but there are some really worthwhile items to be had if you take the time to locate them.

MORTEM VITUS sells items on the DAZ3D site and on Renderosity, but it also offers a range of excellent free items on its own site. Once installed, these items can take a bit of searching for in the DAZ ‘Content Library’, but usually appear in the ‘Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library’ section, though not always in the most obvious place!

I've got a feeling that egg with legs may show up in a Sunday Comic

ShareCG is another good resource for both Poser and DAZ freebies. It probably is the largest congregation of free content.

Joe's Download Area has some very good items. Many are available on Renderosity, but they are all collected together here in one place.

Syltermermaid on Renderosity has a large number of free characters for Victoria 4. Each has head and body morphs, photorealistic skin textures, and a variety of makeup and eye colour options. I have tried a couple of them and they seem very good indeed. When you have downloaded one, merge the Runtime folder with your own, then open DAZ3D and you should find it in Content Library > Poser Formats > My DAZ3D Library > Pose > Name of character.

Anyone interested in free Toon stuff should have a look at SPARKYWORLD. Most of the characters and settings I used in the 3D Toon contest came from there.
You can no longer download items directly from Sparkyworld, but they are available from VANISHING POINT, along with a whole range of other items, including a large selection of Star Wars and other SF ships, costumes and props. Many are also available on ATTIC FREE ZONE.

Anyone using IRAY rendering in Daz Studio might find the free HDRIs at HDRIHaven useful. The images come in a variety of qualities from which you can select the one that best suits your needs. The same site also has a lot of free IRAY textures of bricks, stone, flooring, wood, etc.
